How to Repurpose Your Blogs for Social Media

When it comes to your social media, you always want to be taking advantage of the content you’re already creating for your blog. The last thing you want is to be reinventing the wheel every time you need to post on Instagram. That’s a recipe for burnout. Take it from me as a content strategist and blogger for lifestyle creators.
You’re already putting so much effort into your blogs. You’re doing the research, you’re writing, you’re taking photos, and you’re learning what’s valuable to your audience. When you repurpose your blogs, you take them and break them down into smaller pieces that you can share based on platform. So, let’s talk about how you can take advantage of all the content you’re already creating for your social media.
As a blogger, you’re probably sharing mostly educational content, but you might also be sharing personal content, such as your baby shower or your latest monthly budget. Let’s break down how to repurpose both.
Repurposing educational content
Obviously, educational content can take on a million forms. We’ll go through a couple.
Roundup posts
For our purposes, let’s break down the topic “10 Unique Date Night Ideas.” This is a topic that would have multiple subheadings that list out each date night idea, how it’s unique, and what kind of couple would love it. This makes it super easy to repurpose.
You can easily create multiple posts for Instagram, highlighting each date idea, and if you’ve done it with your partner, all the better. That way, you can share a personal story rather than simply sharing an idea. This makes for great Reel or TikTok content too, since you can share details from your date like food, atmosphere, activities, and it also means you can tag specific places in your social media post, especially if you make your blog more local, like “10 Date Night Ideas for Chicago Couples.”
Series in general can be super popular on social media, but you can also just share a carousel with all the ideas at once. You can also do both!
“How to” posts
This one is a little different, but just as workable. The key is to take smaller points and use them to make your individual social media posts. For example, let’s break down “How to Pack Your Suitcase for a Long Trip.”
For this, you’ll want to comb through and find all the little tips and elements that can be broken down. How do you properly pack your shoes? Do you recommend vacuum sealing or a specific style of bag? How many shirts and pairs of pants should they pack? Anything that can be pulled out of the blog and used as a very specific tip can become its own social media post.
Again, this is something that can become a great series or be shown all at once in a carousel.
It’s a similar deal with something like “Here’s what I spent this month.” The most obvious answer is a short Reel or carousel going through the spending categories. But you can also say things like “I only spent $250 on groceries this month. Here’s how.” Or you can say, “here’s how I’m tackling my monthly debt payments,” or “this spending category used to be X, but now it’s Y.” Just continually pulling on those threads from your blog.
Repurposing personal content
Personal content is also super easy to repurpose because you can highlight specific details or moments. If you’re writing about your two-year-old’s birthday, each detail can get its own Instagram post. You can do a post highlighting the cake, a post highlighting the décor, and a post highlighting the goody bags. If you’re writing about your trip to France, talk about each meal you had or each spot you went to.
When you’re repurposing personal content, you already have all the photos, so you can just take each photo/element and make a social media post about that. Get inspiration from the actual photos and see what you can pull out for Instagram or Facebook. When it comes to TikTok, obviously, you can give the event one cohesive post, but you can also film little stories around it, such as “Here’s how long it took us to prep for this party” or “I’m always so stressed when I go to the airport – here’s what I do.”
Pro tip:
One key thing to remember is that absolutely no one will see ALL of your content on their feed. You can reshare things after an extended period of time. You can break things down that are connected within close proximity to each other. No one will see all of your content at once, so there’s no need to constantly feel like you need new, new, new.
Repurposing your blog content boils down to simply taking your longer content and breaking it down into smaller pieces that make sense for social media. Since there are so many ways to do this, it can save you some serious hassle as you build your social media calendar.
